So here I am. Writing my first blog and the only logical place for me to start is in explaining why my business is called People Change Projects. I have been in Programme and Project management environments for nearing 15 years and have built up a lot of working knowledge and experience on what both good and bad looks and feels like. What I do know is that success is not always measured on time, cost and quality. The real challenge lies in making a change last.
Ever been back to review a programme or project a year or two later to find things habitually back where they were. People and culture are as important as the outcome. They must come as a 3.
There has always been one thing that has always ran true in any organisation, across any programme and in any delivery…..you are only as good as your people.
Whether that is how good your overall direction and sponsorship is, the standard of your programme/project managers and the respective SME/delivery teams or how “bought in” and engaged your business and the stakeholders that make it tick.
Any project or programme is merely a vehicle for change. An opportunity to engage your people but that opportunity is not always taken. The impact of that is wide reaching. The overall measure of success, realisation of benefits and take up of the new way of working, process, technology, etc lies firmly with the people. If they are not fully engaged, supportive and understanding of the need to change, then embracing and adopting the change will not happen and it will not stick.
How many programmes and projects fail to bring the people along with it? Is this something you need some support with?
