Are we thinking change?

Posted on : 23rd September 2021

The pandemic has accelerated ways of working for some organisations but can it really be to blame for not adopting or adapting to change?

Let’s take hybrid working (which was already a thing for many)

You may have altered policies or mirrored government guidance to provide the required flexibility but this does not mean your people understand the change or how it feeds your goals, strategies and ambition.

  •  Have you checked in on your people from both a personal and professional perspective?

The fact that some now spend more time at home certainly is not suited to everybody plus the fact that we all get call “fatigue” from numerous sessions on teams, zoom, etc.

  • What is the impact on “office culture?” and maximising engagement and team effectiveness?

Again a challenge for your people and as who doesn’t miss a good old fashioned face to face meeting or coffee that isn’t virtual ☕️.

Productivity. Another people challenge when your teams are at home 60%+ of the time. There comes a simple opportunity to trust your teams and support managers to engage and empower people to be even more productive at home with greater flexibility that will pay you back in the long term.

What happened to allowing people the chance of fresh air and a bit of exercise during lockdown? How refreshed and energized could people be after a short break from the screen or getting those all important steps in. 🏃‍♂️

  • How can you ensure people are maximizing opportunities when hybrid working?

One size certainly does not fit all in this scenario but simply engaging your teams in the “why” and giving some autonomy back to people that suits their needs and lifestyle can go a long way to getting a fully motivated and energised team.

If people choose to fit around core hours and meetings to drop children at school, be around for bath time or commit to other lifestyle choices then as long as productivity remains and work gets done is there a problem?

Rowing the boat when everybody knows the goal, has clarity on the direction of travel and has people motivated to pull together (in time) is way more effective than a rudderless ship.
